Sawera Nadeem is daughter of Ajoka Theater’s Shahid Nadeem. Sawera’s mother lives in England after getting divorce from her father. Sawera is only sister of 3 brothers including Nirwan Nadeem who actor and model , Farhad Nadeem who is singer by profession and an other youngest one. Sawera’s father Nadeem was born to a Muslim family in 1947, during the partitioning of British India, in Sopore, Kashmir, to a well-known doctor, the family later settled in Lahore, Punjab. Nadeem has a daughter, Savera Nadeem, from his first marriage who is a television actress. Later Nadeem married Madeeha Gauhar and has three sons, Frhad ,Sarang and Nirvaan, the latter being a TV, film and theatre actor/director, who has also written columns for The Nation.Nadeem and Gauhar first met in London when Shahid was working at Amnesty International and Gauhar was on a study scholarship from the British Council. Shahid Nadeem is founder and Executive Director of Ajoka Theatre and also a renowned theatre and television director. He has directed many popular Pakistani TV drama serials and stage plays including Burqavaganza, Hotel Mohenjo Daro, Amrika Chalo/Destination USA and Dara. His telefilm An Act of Terror received a Scottish BAFTA nomination in 2009 and was screened at London’s Asian Film Festival. His documentary on the late Bishop John Joseph, A Sun Sets In, was selected by South Asian Film Festival for worldwide screening. His telefilm Mujahid was screened at the Asia Society, New York, in 2004. He produced documentaries on human rights for Amnesty International in 1991–92. Shahid served on the Pakistan Television Corporation in various capacities including as a producer, general manager, Director of Programmes and Deputy Managing Director. He has been associated with the BBC Urdu Service, with the Pakistani newspapers including The Herald, Newsline and Daily Times, with the Indian magazine, Frontline, and with Zee News. He was born in Sopore, Kashmir. He graduated from the prestigious Government College Lahore and gained his Masters in Applied Psychology from the Punjab University, Lahore. He lives in Lahore, Pakistan, and is married to theatre director Madeeha Gauhar. His daughter Savera and son Nirvaan are well-known actors for Pakistani stage and television. Born in Karachi in 1965, Madeeha obtained a Master degree in English Literature. Later, she moved to England and got a degree in theater sciences from the University of London. In 1983, Madeeha and her husband Shahid Nadeem moved to Lahore where they laid the foundation of Ajoka Theatre. She has the credit of directing over three dozen plays performed nationally and internationally in countries like India, Bangladesh, UK, USA, Egypt and Iran. Madeeha was a tireless activist whose talent and energies were always committed to speaking on behalf of the downtrodden, specifically women and the minorities. Madiha died due to cancer.
