Shoaib Malik Credits His Elder Sisters For His Success

Former Test cricketer Shoaib Malik became emotional while recounting the challenging phase of his life when his commitment to the Test series against India prevented him from being with his ailing father.

Speaking on A-sports’ talk show hosted by Fakhr-e-Alam, he reminisced his last moments with his father Sohaib Malik.

“He was hospitalized, and the Indian team was in Pakistan for the Test series. He always wanted to see me playing for Pakistan. I was playing as an opening batsman in Faisalabad. After the match, as I was sleeping in my room around 2 AM, Inzamam-ul-Haq and our manager at the time, Asaf Mustafa, knocked on my door. My family informed them of my father’s critical condition. They had arranged a car for me to travel to the airport, so I packed my stuff and headed to Sialkot,” the all-rounder recalled.

Malik’s father held high expectations for his son’s performance in the Test series against India.

“Upon reaching CMH Sialkot, I found my father visibly uncomfortable with my presence, thinking that I had abandoned the series. I reassured him, saying, ‘You are more important.’ However, he convinced me to return to Faisalabad for the series, given my role as an opening batsman in the ongoing match,” Malik said with tears in his eyes.

Malik went back to Faisalabad to participate in the Test series but he was soon met with the heartbreaking news of his father’s demise.

Malik mentioned, “However, the following day, at approximately 2 or 3 am, Inzamam Bhai came to my room and informed me that I needed to return home, saying that ‘your father is not well.’ I was not informed that he had passed away. While I was en route, my sister called me and broke the tragic news.”
